Northwoods Aframe + Tiny Cabins

This November was a doozy for our family, with traveling, moving back to Minnesota, and preparing for the holidays we were feeling overwhelmed and needed a break. The Monday after Thanksgiving that break came in the form of an up north stay at Northwoods Aframe and Tiny Cabins. We stayed for three days, so we experienced both locations on the property to their fullest.

Getting here: Northwoods is about 40 minutes from Bemidji, Minnesota and 3:40 minutes from Minneapolis. The best way to get here is by driving, because you’re going to want a car of your own. The closest airport is MSP, and you can drive from there. I know many people want to keep their weekend trips around the three hour mark, but rest assured the extra few minutes will be well worth the drive. Or better yet, add on a few days to take advantage of the drive!

For our first half of the trip we stayed at the Tiny Cabins. It was the three of us, my husband, our one-year old and myself. While we enjoyed making coffee in the morning, hanging out in The Local and watching the snow fall outside, I definitely would just come back my husband and I next time because it is truly the perfect cozy stay for two.

Bonus: the Tiny Cabins are pet friendly, while we don’t have pets many of you ask me for pet friendly stays, so I love to highlight them!

We stayed in Tiny Cabin Nord. Nord is the dark and moody one. The colors are warm, and the cabin has north facing views and is tucked into the trees for privacy. This cabin is a little further down the trail than Wald but not much!

When you get to the Tiny Cabins, you’ll park by The Local and walk to your cabin. In the cabin, there is a mini fridge, the goods to make coffee, games, and all the fixings to use the wood stove. These cabins do not have bathrooms, you get your luxury (and if you know me you know I don’t use that word lightly) bathroom that is attached to The Local. You do not have to share a bathroom with the other tiny cabin. The only shared amenity is the kitchen, but there is more than enough space to cook, play games and make new friends.

Tiny Cabins

Each Tiny Cabin has one queen bed and sleeps 2 adults. There is electricity, heat, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a small fridge. There is also an indoor wood burning stove for use in the colder months.

Huge bonus, they provide firewood for their guests, which is such a major amenity and just always makes me so happy when it’s there ready for you at stays because I love my wood stoves and bonfires!

AFRAME

Northwoods Aframe

Full of natural light on the main floor and up through the loft, this three bedroom, three bathroom is the ultimate oasis in the woods. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, coffee/tea bar, and all essentials needed to cook/bake.

Halfway through the stay, we switched over to the aframe. Northwoods Aframe is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom aframe with a reading loft and a maker space to make all your crafting dreams come true. Matt also used this as an office during our stay, which was amazing that he could have his own space, and Adayla and I could play, she could nap, and more which was so nice for a mid-week stay.

The thing that puts this stay over the top is the attention to detail throughout the whole space. From the little toiletries in the bathroom to everything you could need to make coffee or tea. I had forgotten to bring my creamer, and this was the first stay that had these super unique creamers (not like the gas station blue cups, even though I do love the caramel macchiato one) and they were amazing to make lattes during our stay.

I followed Mary and Tyler from before they broke ground, and even though I’ve never met them in person I feel like we have a bond because we both went through the aframe building process together. I loved following their journey and being able to experience the care, love, and creativity they put into their space, and you can truly feel that.

We spent our time playing games (they have a whole closet), sitting in the living room watching the snow fall out the wall of windows, and enjoying the fire in the woodstove, and we ended our night making homemade popcorn with the popper.

I am already trying to get my family to come up for the weekend because it would be the perfect sibling, girls/guys trip, or friends trip location. After all, there’s so much space to spread out, but also be together!

While there isn’t a town right by Northwoods, everything you could need to enjoy yourself is at the stay. From games to fixings to firewood and toys in The Shed to get outside. Even better, the entrance to Itasca State Park is just down the road for easy access to summer or winter adventures at the start of the Mississippi and more!

Trust me, this aframe stay is one for the bucket list. I’m already planning a trip up next summer. Be sure to book soon, because I have no doubt they will be 100% booked well before summer rolls around.

This stay was hosted by Northwoods Aframe but all opinions are my own. Want to see more pictures and stories from our stay and other amazing unique stays? Be sure to head over to my Instagram page for more.
