Something for everyone: A full weekend itinerary Bloomington, Minnesota

Welcome to Minnesota Land of 10,000 Lakes, Paul Bunyan and the Mall of America. The Mall of America was a treat to visit when I was a kid, but as a got older I’ve overlooked it as a staycation destination usually preferring road trips to new locations. I recently had the opportunity to go back as an adult and I was blow away at how much there is to do not only in the mall but also the surrounding area.

We went down on a Friday afternoon and spent a full fall weekend exploring the mall and the local area, from eats and treats to watching the joy on my daughters face riding the Merry-Go-Round for the 100th time (okay I’m kidding but it was a lot) here’s a great itinerary for any group looking to spend a weekend in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Friday:

1. Hyland Lake Park Reserve

Kick off your weekend with nature's embrace at Hyland Lake Park Reserve. Explore the picturesque trails, rent a paddleboard, or simply enjoy the serene beauty of the lake. It sets the tone for a weekend of relaxation and adventure.

Our favorite part was defiantly the park, while the main park still a little to big for our two year old this park has many different levels and places to play for different ages and will keep your kids running for hours.

2. 9 Mile Brewing Co.

Quench your thirst at Bloomington's first and only brewery, 9 Mile Brewing Co. Nestled in the heart of Bloomington, it's a family and dog-friendly space, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. Sample their diverse craft brews and soak in the local atmosphere. My sister was with us and is gluten free and she loved that they also had seltzers to sip on so she could participate!

3. Radisson Blu Mall of America

Check into the Radisson Blu Mall of America for a luxurious and convenient stay. Located right by the Mall of America, it offers comfort and style, ensuring you're ready for a weekend of fun.

Fun Fact: rumor has it that every hotel room is three minutes or less from the mall and it’s attached, Minnesota winters don’t stand a chance against this weekend getaway you never have to leave!

4. Dinner at Mall of America

Explore culinary delights at Mall of America. With over 50 restaurants to choose from, the mall becomes a gastronomic adventure. Whether you're craving international cuisine or local flavors, MOA has something to tantalize every taste bud.

Saturday:

1. Bloomington Farmers Market

Wake up early and head to the Bloomington Farmers Market. Delight in the vibrant colors of fresh produce, pick up some beautiful flowers, and indulge in local goodies. Don't miss out on the seasonal apple cider donuts – they're a Saturday morning must.
While the farmers market is currently closed for the season, this is a great idea to keep in mind for the summer and early fall months!

2. Mugshots Coffee Co.

After a refreshing morning at the Farmers Market, recharge at Mugshots Coffee Co. Grab a cup of their signature coffee and treat yourself to a Nordic waffle – the perfect combination to kickstart your day.

3. SEA LIFE at Mall of America

Be the first to dive into the wonders of the ocean at SEA LIFE at Mall of America. The aquarium opens at 10 AM, giving you a chance to explore the incredible marine life. It's an educational and entertaining experience for the whole family.

We all agreed that our favorite part was the 300-ft long underwater tunnel and seeing the sea turtle!

4. Nickelodeon Universe & Crayola Experience

Continue your day of adventures at Nickelodeon Universe and Crayola Experience. From thrilling rides to creative art projects, there's something for everyone. Pro-tip: Crayola Experience validates tickets, allowing for a return visit if the little ones need a midday break.

5. Tax-Free Shopping Extravaganza

Take advantage of the tax-free shopping on clothing and shoes at MOA. Update your wardrobe, find the perfect souvenirs, or explore the unique boutiques that make Mall of America a shopping paradise.

Add this to your holiday shopping or back to school shopping, you know every penny counts these days!

6. Dinner at CRAVE

As the day winds down, treat your taste buds to a delightful dinner at CRAVE America. Offering a diverse menu, including options for the little ones, it's a perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal.

We loved that they had plain buttered noodles and crisp green beans for my daughter to eat, a nice variety compared to many fried options that are usually offered on kids meals.

7. Dessert from Beard Papa's

End your day on a sweet note with a visit to Beard Papa's. Indulge in their delightful desserts – the chocolate cream puff is a crowd-pleaser!

We took home a six pack and my sister and I stayed up way to late sipping on wine, eating the cream puffs and enjoying our hotel room. It felt like an adult sleepover and it was the best!

Sunday:

1. Brunch at FireLake Restaurant

Kickstart your Sunday with a hearty brunch at FireLake Restaurant. Offering a range of delicious options, it's a great way to fuel up for the day ahead.
Voted one of the best restaurants in the mall FireLake uses Midwestern ingredients from Twin Cities-based food artisans.

2. Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge

After brunch, take a leisurely stroll and explore the serene beauty of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge provides a peaceful escape, allowing you to connect with nature before heading back home.
We only had the stroller that day, but we want to come back with our hiking backpack and explore more.

Overall, this weekend was packed with fun, less than 10 miles from the Twin Cities, meaning we got to soak up new experiences instead of spending time on the road! Plan your Bloomington adventure now and create lasting memories with your loved ones.

This weekend was sponsored by Bloomington, Minnesota and Mall of America but all opinions and recommendations are my own.
