Let's delve into the highlights of these gems along the wine trail.

Location: Fargo is located north of the Twin Cities. The Twin Cities, consisting of Minneapolis and St. Paul, are in the southeastern part of the state of Minnesota. Fargo, on the other hand, is in North Dakota. The approximate driving distance between the Twin Cities and Fargo is around 240 miles, and it usually takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to drive between the two locations, depending on traffic and the specific route taken.

Bear Creek Winery: Where Tradition Meets Innovation

Located in Fargo, Bear Creek Winery is a family-owned establishment known for blending tradition with innovation. The winery's commitment to quality is reflected in their diverse wine selection, featuring cold-hardy grapes like Marquette and La Crescent.

Visitors can indulge in the charm of the winery while savoring their signature wines. Sit inside and chat with the owners, gather as a group and share a flight or sit outside by the water and enjoy a mix of nature and pleasure. Parents, they even have a little sand area with toys for kids to play during your time too!

4E Winery: Crafting Wines with Passion and Precision

Situated in Mapleton, 4E Winery is a boutique winery founded on the principles of passion and precision. The winemakers at 4E Winery focus on creating exceptional wines from cold-hardy grape varieties. With a commitment to sustainable practices, 4E Winery offers a unique tasting experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the artistry behind each bottle.

We loved sitting outside chatting with the owner hearing about the grapes they grow, the story of the winery and tasting a wide selection of wines. If you don’t care for wine, they also offer beer from the local brewery, there’s something for everyone! You truly can feel the love and passion from the second you step through the doors!

Prairie Rose Meadery: A Honeyed Haven in Fargo

Prairie Rose Meadery, located in Fargo, brings a sweet twist to the Red River Wine Trek. Specializing in mead, an ancient beverage crafted from honey, Prairie Rose offers a wide array of meads, each bursting with distinct flavors. From traditional meads to creatively infused concoctions, this meadery provides a delightful deviation from traditional wine tasting.

Looking for a unique sip? We tried a mead that’s cast in a whiskey barrel. This was one of my husband’s favorites as he’s more of a whiskey guy than wine but this was a fun mix of both and something super unique on the trek!

Dakota Creek Winery: Fruitful Wines in Casselton

Nestled in Casselton, Dakota Creek Winery is renowned for its fruit wines, adding a burst of local flavor to the Red River Wine Trek. With an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship, the winery produces a variety of fruit wines, including apple, rhubarb, and chokecherry.
Visitors can explore the scenic vineyards and indulge in the taste of North Dakota's bountiful harvest. While they do close for the late fall and winter, you can buy their wines online and they’re doing a fun advent calendar type selection that would be a great one to try until you’re able to visit their location in person!

Cottonwood Cider House: Crafting Apple Bliss in Ayr

For a cider treat, head to Ayr to experience the offerings of Cottonwood Cider House. While not a winery, this cider house brings a unique touch to the Red River Wine Trek with its handcrafted apple ciders. The crisp and flavorful ciders are a perfect alternative for those looking to explore the region's beverage diversity.

We shared a flight and by far our favorite was the mule cider. We loved it so much we took two bottel’s home. While we were still full from lunch, the owner of 4E winery said next time we go it’s a must to try their food specifically their weekend specials. I guess we’ll have to go back!
