North of Normal: A weekend vacation to fargo w/ the jasper hotel

Nestled in the heart of North Dakota, Downtown Fargo offers a perfect blend of vibrant culture, artistic flair, culinary delights, and unique shopping experiences. I actually went to college at North Dakota State University (NDSU) from 2012-2016 and even since I was at school there it’s changed so much. I love coming back at least once a year to see the new businesses, murals and things to do. It’s growing and changing so fast you could go back once over and over and always find something new. A weekend in Fargo filled with charm, creativity, and the warm hospitality that North Dakota is known for.

Afternoon: Arrival and Coffee at Young Blood

As you arrive in Downtown Fargo, kickstart your weekend at Young Blood Coffee. This local gem is a haven for coffee enthusiasts, offering a cozy atmosphere and a diverse range of coffee blends. Savor your favorite brew as you soak in the eclectic energy of the city.

Evening: Check-in at the Jasper Hotel

For a boutique experience, check into the Jasper Hotel, located in the heart of downtown. This chic hotel effortlessly combines modern luxury with historic charm. Unwind in your stylish room and get ready for the evening.

If you’re looking for a lowkey night, head down to Rosewild for a craft cocktail and get the lay of the land from the bartenders who are more than willing to recommend the spots to check out for your trip or any events going on during your trip, head to the sauna and unwind from your drive and soak up the lights around downtown from your room!

OR

Looking to get out on the town? Head to one of the many restaurants or bars around downtown. I love tacos an margaritas from Vinal Taco, sushi from Wasabi or pizza from Blackbird Woodfired. Bonus, all of these are within walking distance from the Jasper Hotel.

Day 2: Saturday

Morning: Explore the Red River Market

Saturday morning calls for a visit to the Red River Market, a bustling farmers' market where local vendors showcase fresh produce, handmade crafts, and artisanal goodies. It's a perfect opportunity to mingle with locals, support small businesses, and pick up some unique souvenirs.

Morning: Brunch at Rosewild

Start your day with a leisurely brunch at Rosewild. This restaurant is a culinary gem, known for its inventive dishes and welcoming ambiance. Indulge in their mouthwatering menu, featuring locally sourced ingredients and creative twists on brunch classics.

If you’re lucky enough to be there on a weekend when they’re having their Jazz Brunch make sure to make a reservation and enjoy a morning of music, great food and conversation! I’ve got the Fargoan Croque twice now and I think it’s the only thing I’ll order. It’s so large so you could also split it and try some of Rosewild’s pastries or Bread Pudding French Toast it’s like brunch dessert!

Afternoon: Mural Tour

Embark on a self-guided mural tour to discover the vibrant street art that adorns the walls of Downtown Fargo. From striking murals celebrating local culture to abstract pieces that ignite the imagination, each mural tells a unique story. Don't forget your camera – these murals are perfect for a weekend photoshoot.

The Fargo-Moorhead tourism board has put together a great list to make them easy to find. You can find them all here.

Late Afternoon: Explore Boutiques

Downtown Fargo boasts charming boutiques offering a curated selection of clothing, accessories, and unique finds. Take a stroll through the streets and explore these hidden gems, where you might discover the perfect Fargo-inspired souvenir or a stylish addition to your wardrobe.

Kittsona was a boutique that was in Fargo when I went to college, and while I may not be shopping for my sorority’s formal dresses there anymore, it’s still one of my favorite shops to find a unique piece to add to my closet before I leave town. They also have a wall of hats that I just wanted to take home with me. Walk up and down the streets of downtown and just stop in and look around, you never know what hidden gems you’ll find!

Evening: Dinner at Wurst Beer Hall

For dinner, experience the lively atmosphere of Wurst Beer Hall. This German-inspired beer hall offers a vast selection of craft beers and delicious comfort food. Indulge in a hearty meal and enjoy the convivial atmosphere.

I love their large selection of beers (41 to be exact) and a wide selection of German favorite meals. My favorite is the spaetzle mac & cheese with the hot Italian sausage.

Day 3: Sunday

Morning:

Wake up and sauna or workout in the Jasper Hotels state of the art fitness center, then grab a coffee from the coffee bar and head back to your room to get ready for brunch.

Walk across the street to Marge’s Diner for an eclectic experience that makes you feel like you walked into a 70s sitcom. I love that they had a little coffee bar where you could just walk up and grab a mug all different, shapes, sizes and designs and pour your own coffee. Kind of felt like I was at grandmas. We got biscuits and gravy and hangover hashbrowns. So good, a must check out spot when you’re in town. Be sure to go right when they open because they fill up and fill up fast.

Afternoon: Riverside Stroll and Relaxation

Wrap up your weekend with a leisurely stroll along the Red River. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and picturesque views. If weather permits, consider renting a bike or kayak for a more active riverside experience.

Downtown Fargo, with its charming coffee shops, boutique hotels, culinary delights, artistic treasures, beer halls, and unique boutiques, provides the ideal backdrop for a memorable weekend getaway. Whether you're a foodie, art lover, shopper, or seeking a relaxed escape, Fargo's downtown scene has something special in store for you.
